Already established as one of the Tampa Bay area’s explosive offensive weapons, Donteis Austin is opening a new chapter at Jefferson with his speed, production and big-play ability on full display.

Donteis Austin didn’t arrive at Jefferson High School needing an introduction.

The senior playmaker had already spent the past few seasons building a reputation at Wiregrass Ranch as an explosive weapon capable of changing a game whenever the football found his hands. After transferring to Jefferson during the offseason, Austin entered his final high school campaign with a new opportunity, a new offense and another chance to show college programs just how dynamic his game can be.

If his debut was any indication, his playmaking ability is only continuing to rise.

Austin made an immediate impact in Jefferson’s season opener against a talented Tampa Catholic program, turning just three receptions into an impressive 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His night included a 76-yard reception, and he finished the game responsible for three total touchdowns, providing Jefferson with an explosive presence throughout the matchup.

It was the type of performance that should only add to the attention surrounding Austin as his senior season progresses.

His production is nothing new. During the 2025 season at Wiregrass Ranch, Austin finished with 513 receiving yards and five touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the Bulls’ dangerous offensive weapons. One of his biggest performances came against Springstead, when he exploded for 182 receiving yards on only four catches — an average of more than 45 yards per reception. That ability to generate huge plays has become a defining part of his game.

Austin’s speed is difficult to ignore. A multi-sport athlete with track experience, he has posted a verified 11.21-second time in the 100-meter dash. That speed translates naturally to the football field, where his acceleration and ability to separate can put tremendous pressure on a secondary. Whether he is attacking vertically, finding space underneath or getting the football with room to operate, Austin possesses the ability to turn one opportunity into six points.

That was evident once again against Tampa Catholic. His 76-yard reception wasn’t simply an isolated explosive play; it was another example of a trait that has followed him throughout his career. Austin has the ability to take the top off a defense, and opposing secondaries have to respect that speed whenever he steps onto the field.

The move from Wiregrass Ranch to Jefferson represents an important next step. Austin officially transferred to Jefferson this summer after multiple seasons at Wiregrass, and his early production suggests that the transition hasn’t slowed him down. Instead, Jefferson may provide another platform for him to showcase his versatility and continue developing as a complete offensive weapon.

College programs have already taken notice. Austin’s recruiting profile lists an offer from Florida Memorial, and his combination of verified speed, production and senior film gives him an opportunity to continue generating interest as the season unfolds.

At 5-foot-9, Austin’s game isn’t built around being the biggest receiver on the field. It’s built around creating separation, making defenders miss and producing explosive plays. For college programs searching for speed and versatility, those traits can make him an intriguing option at receiver and potentially in the return game.

Most importantly, Austin has production to support the evaluation.

He showed it throughout his time at Wiregrass Ranch, and now he’s beginning to show it in a Jefferson uniform.

There is plenty of football remaining in his senior campaign, but opening the season with 141 receiving yards and three total touchdowns against Tampa Catholic sends a strong early message. If Austin continues stacking performances and creating explosive plays, his recruitment has an opportunity to gain even more momentum over the coming months.

Donteis Austin has been a known playmaker in the Tampa Bay area for several years. The difference now is that he’s entering the most important stretch of his high school career with another opportunity to elevate his name.

The speed has been there. The production has been there. And now at Jefferson, Austin has an opportunity to turn a productive senior season into even more college opportunities.
