Theo Wilson has been one of the names to know in Florida’s 2027 class for quite some time. Now the Armwood linebacker enters his senior season as a North Carolina commit with an opportunity to show exactly why he became one of the state’s most coveted defensive prospects.
Wilson has developed into the heartbeat of an Armwood defense that has established itself as one of Florida’s toughest units. The production he put together as a junior was difficult to ignore — 96 total tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 17 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and an interception.
Those aren’t simply good linebacker numbers. They’re the numbers of a player who consistently finds his way into the opposing backfield and can completely disrupt an offensive game plan.
That production helped turn Wilson into a major national recruit. Programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, LSU and Indiana were among the schools to offer, while Virginia, Louisville and others were heavily involved throughout his recruitment.
In June, Wilson made his decision.
The four-star linebacker committed to North Carolina and head coach Bill Belichick, choosing the Tar Heels over LSU following a recruitment that included multiple major programs. Wilson pointed to Belichick’s defensive philosophy and coaching style as major factors in his decision. For a linebacker whose game is built around physicality, instincts and creating havoc, the opportunity to develop under one of football’s most accomplished defensive minds made UNC an intriguing fit.
Now Wilson has one final season at Armwood before heading to Chapel Hill — and he’s already started it in dominant fashion.
In Armwood’s 17-7 season-opening victory over Lennard, Wilson recorded 12 tackles and two sacks, immediately picking up where he left off last year.
But Friday night brings an entirely different challenge.
Armwood travels to Ramsey, New Jersey, to face national power Don Bosco Prep in one of the more intriguing interstate matchups of the week. Don Bosco’s offense will give Wilson plenty to account for, including quarterbacks Carson Schoen and Damien Pierro, running back Ca’si Thomas, and receivers Isaiah Alvarez, Zakai Murphy and Jasiah Smith.
This is exactly the type of matchup elite prospects embrace.
Wilson will be asked to diagnose plays, create pressure, defend the run and help contain a Don Bosco offense playing on its home field. Against a program with the tradition and talent of the Ironmen, every mistake can become costly — but it also gives Wilson a national stage to demonstrate the qualities that made him such an important commitment for North Carolina.
Armwood will need its veteran leaders Friday night, and No. 5 will be right in the middle of everything.
At around 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, Wilson brings the physical presence of a traditional linebacker with the ability to attack downhill and get after the quarterback. One recent evaluation of Florida’s 2027 class highlighted his frame, wingspan and strength while noting the production he generated for one of the state’s premier defenses.
And despite already being committed, there is still plenty for Wilson to prove.
A senior season is an opportunity to continue developing, help Armwood chase a championship and show UNC exactly what will be arriving in Chapel Hill. After a 12-tackle, two-sack opener, he’s already off to the type of start expected from one of the Hawks’ defensive leaders.
Friday night is the next test — and it’s a big one.
