Seffner Christian Academy sophomore Isaiah Balthazar is quickly establishing himself as one of the young prospects to watch in the Tampa Bay area and Florida’s Class of 2029.
At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Balthazar already brings an impressive physical frame to the running back position, but his combination of size and speed is what makes him particularly intriguing. The two-way standout contributes at running back and safety for the Crusaders and has started his sophomore campaign with a major impact, emerging as one of the team’s leading offensive weapons.
Through the opening three games, Balthazar has rushed for 249 yards and five touchdowns, averaging an impressive 8.9 yards per carry. He has also contributed as a receiver and has accounted for seven total touchdowns and 42 points, helping Seffner Christian open the year with three consecutive victories. His performances have included 80 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Avon Park, an explosive 72 yards and a score on just two carries against Legacy Charter, and 97 yards with two more touchdowns against Indian Rocks Christian.
What makes Balthazar’s ceiling even more intriguing is that his speed isn’t simply something that shows up on football film. He’s a legitimate multi-sport athlete who competes in track and field and, as a freshman, ran the 400 meters in 51.20 seconds at the FHSAA regional level. That track background translates to the field, where his acceleration and long-stride speed become increasingly difficult to handle once he gets into open space.
Balthazar has also demonstrated his versatility on defense. During his freshman campaign, he recorded three interceptions, along with multiple forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, providing an early glimpse of his ability to impact games on either side of the football.
For a player who is only beginning his sophomore season, there is considerable development still ahead. The size is already there. The speed is verified. The production is beginning to follow, and the versatility gives college programs multiple ways to evaluate him.
Balthazar is already generating college interest, and Preps Next projects his recruitment to accelerate considerably as his sophomore season progresses. If he continues producing at his current level, it would not be surprising to see offers begin accumulating, with the potential for major Power Four programs to become increasingly involved throughout this season and heading into his junior year.
The Class of 2029 is still several years away from signing day, but Balthazar is putting himself in position to become one of the names programs begin tracking early. With his combination of size, speed, multi-sport athleticism and two-way production, Isaiah Balthazar has all the ingredients to develop into one of Florida’s more sought-after prospects in the 2029 class.
