Illinois Commit Steven Alexis Continues to Dominate as Stock Rises

Gibbs High School running back Steven Alexis continues to establish himself as one of the top Class of 2027 prospects coming out of the Tampa Bay area. The 6-foot, 205-pound Illinois commit has built his reputation with a combination of size, power and explosiveness, consistently creating problems for defenses and putting together dominant performances out of the Gibbs backfield.

Junior Year: Dominant Production

Alexis rushed for 1,113 yards and nine touchdowns on just 124 carries during his junior season, averaging nearly nine yards every time he touched the football. His ability to run through contact, accelerate through openings and break off explosive plays has made him one of the more dangerous backs in the area. Whether he’s attacking between the tackles or getting into open space, Alexis has continued to show that bringing him down with one defender is no easy assignment.

Recruitment Heat and Commitment

That production didn’t go unnoticed. Alexis became a heavily recruited Power Four prospect, attracting scholarship opportunities from programs including Illinois, Colorado, Iowa and Pittsburgh before ultimately committing to Illinois. Senior Season: Continuing the Surge

Now in his senior season, Alexis continues to run with the same physicality and big-play ability that helped elevate his recruitment. He’s been running through opposing defenses and showing that the dominant junior campaign wasn’t a one-year occurrence. His combination of a 200-plus-pound frame and the speed to turn a crease into a huge gain gives Gibbs a weapon capable of changing a game on any possession.

Looking Ahead to College

For the Illinois commit, this season is another opportunity to put an exclamation point on what has already been an impressive high school career. Alexis has the commitment, the Power Four recruiting résumé and, most importantly, the production to back up the attention. If he continues performing at this level, expect his name to remain firmly in the conversation among the top 2027 prospects coming out of the Tampa Bay area.
