Shrodderick “Shrod” Pritchett Jr. arrived at St. Petersburg Catholic this offseason with plenty of expectations. After one game, it already looks like the senior wide receiver is prepared to live up to them.
Pritchett transferred to SPC after putting together a huge junior season at Lakewood, where he established himself as one of the Tampa Bay area’s most productive receivers. He finished the year with 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 15.5 yards per catch and leading the Spartans in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Now he’s taken that production to one of the area’s most explosive offenses.
In his regular-season debut with the Barons, Pritchett immediately made his presence felt, hauling in eight receptions for 110 yards in SPC’s 41-26 victory over Gibbs. It was exactly the type of start expected from a receiver who has proven he can consistently create separation, make plays downfield and become a quarterback’s security blanket when the offense needs a play.
And Pritchett couldn’t have landed in a much better situation.
Senior quarterback Chase Burrill has been on an incredible run dating back to last season, when he threw for 3,677 yards and a Pinellas County-record 53 touchdowns while helping lead SPC to a 12-1 season. Burrill picked up right where he left off in the 2026 opener, completing 29 of 38 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns.
Through one game, it’s already clear that the chemistry between Burrill and his new senior receiver could become one of the biggest storylines surrounding this offense.
Pritchett isn’t alone, either. SPC has surrounded Burrill with a talented collection of young playmakers, including sophomore Elijah Shorter, who also went over 100 yards in the opener and scored twice, and junior Davion Jackson, who added another receiving touchdown. That depth creates a major problem for defenses: commit too much attention to Pritchett and Burrill has other weapons capable of making you pay.
But this Friday, all eyes will be on one particular matchup.

SPC travels across the bay to face Tampa Catholic, setting up a battle between one of the area’s hottest senior receivers and Wake Forest commit Carl Jones Jr., one of Tampa Catholic’s premier defensive backs. It’s the type of individual matchup football fans love — a proven 1,000-yard receiver against a Power Four defensive back with the ability to match up against high-level talent.
For Pritchett, however, there could be much more at stake than one Friday night matchup.
Multiple Division I programs have been evaluating the senior receiver, and a performance against a highly regarded Power Four commit could provide another major boost to his recruitment. Games like this give college staffs an opportunity to see how a prospect responds when matched against another high-level player, and Pritchett has the production and opportunity to make a statement.
Don’t be surprised if this is the type of game that leads to more offers.
He’s already proven he can put up numbers. He’s already shown that his production can follow him to a new program. Now he’s playing with one of the most productive quarterbacks in the state, surrounded by enough offensive talent that defenses can’t afford to focus exclusively on him.
After 1,020 yards last season and another 110 in his SPC debut, Pritchett isn’t entering 2026 as a player hoping to break out.
The breakout already happened.
Now Shrod Pritchett is showing that he’s ready to take the next step — and with Division I programs watching, Friday night’s matchup against Tampa Catholic gives him the perfect stage to show exactly why his recruitment should continue to grow.
